"SHADOW"

This barn is on the way out to the Peabody Mine. Not sure the name of the barn if anyone out there knows I would like the info. I love this barn. Every time I pass by on my bike I snap a few pics.
I'm a little behind so this may be it for a few days. I need to reflect and reenergize.

"FLYING COLORS - STUDY"

This is another Routt County Fair image. This young participant(possibly royalty) was practicing for the opening ceremonies at the fair. She raced around the entire rodeo grounds with the flag waving by her side - it was quite an inspiring sight. The speed of her horse was most impressive while hanging onto the flag. Love the fair. "GETTING READY TO COMPETE"

This was at the Routt County Fair. I went to the Draft horse barrel racing competition - I think it's called the Chuck Fulton Draft Horse Competition - I have a ton of photos of this event and want to try and show what it was like to be there. The ranchers do it for the love of the horses and to see their friends and neighbors. The animals were so beautiful and you could tell there was a lot of love for these majestic, hard working horses. More coming later. Thanks for following.

"TWO TRAC TREE"

This painting is another experiment. I used Cad orange - ultramarine blue + white. I've had a tube of cadmium orange for 25 years and never knew what to do with it - so I grabbed it and some ultramarine blue to make this painting. It was a fun experiment and very challenging. Turns out cadmiums have been replaced by azo colors because the azo components are non-toxic. Cadmiums are toxic - I don't recommend that you go out and buy any. I just figure I should use it up and be careful in the process. I am a believer in mixing my oranges from different yellows and reds. I think I'll try the same idea mixing my own orange and see what happens.

"YELLOWSTONE"

I wasn't sure if I was ready to post this image but then I figured why not. This was an image from our Yellowstone trip a couple of years ago. I'm thinking about it and may end up trying it again some day.
It's a challenge for sure.
Thanks

"TROUT CREEK"

I was invited to a friends house out on Trout Creek last friday. It's a part of Steamboat I have never explored - I was so impressed. I would love to go back out when everything starts to turn
spring green - you know - That really bright green - it's almost a florescent color.  The views were spectacular in all directions and it was an extremely pretty day. Thanks

"ARCTIC SUN"

This is a commission piece and it was not your usual photo - it was taken with wide angle lens and very different than anything I've attempted. Luckily everyone is happy with the way it turned out. That's the hardest part about commissions - trying to do the image justice and give it some life.

"CLOUD"

I'm into this cloud thing right now. I've had this idea for quite some time and wanted to give it a go.
There will be more clouds coming. Hope you enjoy.

"SODA MOUNTAIN"

I'm excited that spring is on the way. The cloud formations have been pretty spectacular of late and I'm trying once again to find a style for this type of landscape. I should call it Big Sky but I'm not there yet.

"BUDDY GUY"

My sister rescued this kitty and he didn't have a name for a while but now he's Buddy Guy and he's a lucky guy. Cats are still hard for me go figure. If you want a cat painting I'd love the challenge and give you a deal. Let me know I need the practice.

"BUFF PASS"

I'm trying something new again. It will take a few tries to get it all worked out I'm sure. With the feeling of spring in the air I've been thinking about those spring clouds and the contrast of the snow and dark conifer trees. It's a stretch for me so I thought it was time to give it a try. This is a tiny gessoboard - it's
4"H X 8"W - It was a cut off from another project. I'm trying to use all my supplies and not obsess over the details - just do it! Hope you are enjoying the change in daylight. Thanks MB

"SHOOT THE FALLS"

"Shoot the Falls"
6" X 6"
Oil on Gessoboard(original painting)
120.00(includes priority mail shipping)

I have been planning this painting since we went to Yellowstone in 2009. I didn't know how to make it work visually until now. The 100 paintings in 100 days surely helped with the painting vision. The reason I took this photo was the complementary color scheme,  the strangers standing so close to each other taking pictures of the same subject. They were in such harmony - the tourists on a mission.  I was going to call it blue and orange but thank goodness my partner in crime came up with "Shoot the Falls" it's a much better title in so many ways. It's great to get some help and feedback. I recommend finding someone to help with titles, they are more removed from the process and can see it in a different light.

"ART LOVER" or "MATISSE MEETS PABLO"

This image is from the Picasso show of 2010 at the Met in NY. The art lover pictured was truly part of the exhibit. She seemed to know everyone there and was dressed like a Matisse Painting. Prints, stripes and florals all in on ensemble. Her hair was bright orange - she was not to be missed. I kind of followed her around - it's good she didn't call the security guards. I was drawn to her great style.

"CHINA TOWN"

"CHINA TOWN"
12"H X 4"W
OIL ON GESSOBOARD(original painting ready to hang)
120.00(includes shipping by priority mail)

This is my rendition of China Town in San Francisco. I am painting a number of images I've had on the back burner - some for years - others saved for one reason or another. I am getting it out of my system so to speak. I love this image because it's quite different than the expected China Town image.  I was in San Francisco in May of 2011. I took tons of pics and had always intended to use them in one way or another. So here you are - I hope you enjoy my eclectic choices this week and maybe next week too. Remember my motto

"GRANDPA'S BOY"

OK so here goes. Grandpa sent me 4 photos and to tell the truth I didn't think any of them would work. Then he suggested I take this photo and crop it in real close - I gave it a go. The original photo was hard to work with because the light was so diffused and the subject so far away - but I thought I could really learn a lot from this particular assignment. I realized I could paint a subject I didn't know, how to work with a photo that isn't mine, how to capture the essence of the subject, and how much fun it is when it turns out to meet my expectations. So, I did learn quite a bit from this self imposed assignment but isn't that true with each and every effort in painting and in life. I'll give it a go! That's my motto lately and it seems to be working on some level.
Hope all is well with everyone.

"ANY WAY YOU SLICE IT"

"Any Way You Slice It"
120.00(includes priority shipping)
OIL ON GESSOBOARD(not a print)

I would like to send my sincerest thanks to everyone who took the time to come to my opening last night. What a show of support. I just can't tell you how much it meant to see everyone there. I painted this this morning as an inbox thank you!
I bought these blood oranges about a week ago and had no idea what to do with them. What a weird name for an orange. I was thinking about the saying - any way you slice it - late last night(because I couldn't sleep). And was thinking about no matter what - true friends are really what count the most. I may not have 400 followers or 4 million but the ones I have are the best! Thanks so much for making my evening a special one.
