"DOWNTOWN CRUISER"

Cruising downtown Winnemucca, NV. 

We usually stay in Winnemucca on our way home from Mt. Shasta, CA.

We arrived in town early enough so I could cruise around downtown on my 

bike. Snapped some fun photos, there should be some more paintings soon.

"TUCKER"

Tucker was a happy dog but he didn't appreciate having his photo

taken until he was all tuckered out from a day of activity.

He was a sweet, loyal friend.

I wanted to see what the difference would be of the same image painted

in two different situations. You be the judge.

painted in my studio - music playing - no bugs

no twigs falling on my painting and no sand. 

I'm a studio painter for sure make no mistake.

Old "SIDES" painted complein air style. 

I call it com-plein air because I complain the entire time I have to paint outdoors. 

I'm a complein air painter!

"PROCESS"

Sorry my posts have been few and far between.

 I've been painting likeMad! Or I am mad???? 

Anyway my computer is fixed and I plan to get back On a posting schedule soon. 

I drew this composition last year and never knew how to approach the idea.

As you can see I started at the top and I'm working my way down

Instead of the left to right approach. In fact the last couple of 

Paintings I've completed were approached in this way - so much

"COMING AND GOING"

I finished 12 paintings this week for my special project(more on that later)

 I have no photos of those paintings due to dark days and rain.

I thought I'd throw something fun your way for the weekend!

I think this car is parked in Rawlins, Wyoming 

but I could be wrong - I've been wrong once before????!!

I took this photo in 2009 on our trip back from scamping in Yellowstone.

 I had a great week painting and starting this saturday I will be participating in the 

Steamboat Art Museum Paint out. I will post if I get some good stuff.

"MORE PROCESS IF INTERESTED"

I can't tell you how many days this was because I

stopped keeping track. All I can tell you is that it

was slow - slow for me anyway.

If you don't know I'm left handed so I typically work

right to left to not smudge my previous work. Again

this is not written in stone - it can change but for the

most part it's how it comes together.

No shadow here but I blocked it in. Had to think about

it for a day before I knew what I wanted.

This is the last one in the California series for now. 

I'd love to paint some large ocean scenes 

I  have to find a market for that specific imagery.

Steamboat visitors want Steamboat all the time every time.

Gotta get back to the local stuff for awhile. 

That's life - I can't complain.

I'm lucky I get to paint and I have a great studio to spend my days.

I painted a small Chinatown a couple of years ago and really

felt a need to make it larger. If you get a chance stop in the

CVA to see it, it doesn't photograph well because of it's odd dimensions.

DEMO PAINTING FIRST FRIDAY

AUGUST 7TH

Thanks to everyone Harwigs was a fun night. 

I received so many great e-mails from friends before the show 

and so many friends showed up for the event. It made my day!

THANKS

This skyline painting started a lot of conversations 

of course there was the standing joke that that's not a painting of

the Steamboat skyline - I don't think Steamboat has a skyline.

  You know what my response was????!!!!

It turned out a large number of visitors and residents were from Minneapolis. 

It made for a fun time but the painting suffered from all the distractions.

It is just a study after all and I may paint it bigger at a later date.

Really - thanks to everyone far and near I appreciate all the support.

REVIEW OF WHAT I'VE BEEN UP TO!

I've been busy - in fact I bit off more than I could chew.

I'm getting ready for the Harwigs show which opens first friday

August 7th while trying to get this new San Francisco series ready to

frame for the gallery for the month of August.

These paintings are wet so I have no photos of them as yet

but thought I better post before I lose everyone out there. 

I miss my posts and your comments - I also went to 

Minnesota for a visit in-between all the silence

and that threw me another curve ball. 

My head is spinning with images but at the same time I 

get paralyzed and don't know where to start again. 

I also got a great commission piece that the client wants for

August 8th. Well that's all there is to report just

thought I'd let you know I'm still here and painting like crazy.

"DETAIL - FREEDOM FLYER"

A couple of more closeups of my Freedom Flyer painting.

"SADIE"

Here's what Sadie's family says about her:

 I've had several dogs through the years and a couple horses, but this little dog meant more than all of them combined. Enough that I actually had her exact paw print tattooed on my foot so a bit of her would always be with me. I got her when I was 12 and she passed away at 15 yrs on December 30th. 

Sadie was a complete snuggle bug, but secretly throught she was a Golden Retriever. She played fetch with a full sized tennis ball, and spent more time in the water than our actual Golden did. Yet, she had a major soft spot for pillows, always finding the optimum napping spot (usually on my face). She went everwhere with me, to college in Fort Collins, forced to endure the crazy antics of college kids; to grad school in San Diego where she rode around in my cruiser bike basket; to my adventures in Washington DC. And this doesn't even include all the numerous family vacations we took her on, especially to Lake Powell where she joined me on the wave runner, tubing, stand up paddle boarding, and lounging on the beach. 

She's had any manner of haricuts, but was mostly a medium length. She lost her left eye in May 2005 (she was 5yrs) while out at the horse barn (I think she ran into some barbed wire), and spent the majority of her life blind in that eye. Dr. Gotchey worked his magic and saved the eye, leaving her with a vibrant blue left eye. 

Sadie loved to sing (to the annoyance of my parents, especially when she got Chuck singing too). Everyone loved her, and almost got kidnapped on numerous occasions by friends who decided they wanted her for themselves. Sadie was such a wonderful, special dog, that she turned numerous "big" dog purists into small dog fans. Biscuit and Kiwi McCaulley owe their wonderful life at the McCaulley home to Sadie who thoroughly won over Marilyn to small dogs. She was among the first to convert, but certainly not the last.
