BACK TO THE FUTURE

Here's a process shot - I need to finish this one today. It's #4 out of
the 5 new paintings for August. Here's a quick story of how this shot
became a painting. As most of you know I ride my bike a LOT! Riding bike is
My think tank where my ideas become a reality. I was at the end of my ride
on River Road through Brooklyn and in the distance was a shot of this buggy.
I got out my phone shot one and knew I had to get closer. I didn't have much
energy left but I knew I had to pass the buggy - get off my bike a shoot what
I could. Turns out I knew the buggy driver - what are the chances?
I couldn't wait to get into my studio and paint this scene. This is what
I love about photography as a tool for painting. These moments in time are
captured in a split second you just can't get that in plein air painting. I'm a
painter who specializes in fleeting images and experiences. This is what makes
me tick.  Thanks for waiting - MB

"CHEVY HEAVEN"

Secret spot in downtown Steamboat Springs.
I will never divulge this secret garden of cars and trucks.
It's heaven to me.
8" x 8"
oil on panel
600.00
I'm hoping this painting will be shown at SAM(Steamboat Art Museum)
for the plein air show starting tomorrow. Turns out I
painted too many paintings - I'll have to see how many
they will allow. I'm hoping since the paintings are small they
will allow all my work. Doesn't take up much space.
Thanks and have a wonderful weekend.

DETAILS -SWEET RIDE

SELF PORTRAIT
this is my reflection in the bumper - crouched down taking the photo

Thanks for taking a look. I am painting San Francisco for something
a bit different. If they turn out I'll post.
TTFN!

PROCESS - SWEET RIDE

End of day 2

Day 3 was the longest. This was the first 1:30 hours
Went to the house for lunch after this - came back and
finished the painting. I worked for 5 hours this last day
because I had a 3 day goal and wanted to see if I could
achieve that goal. It wore me to a frazzle but it was a
great exercise for me at this time. I was driven.
Tomorrow is just some close up shots.
Thanks

MORE PROCESS

This is where I left it the first day

This is what my palette looked like at the end of the first
day. I scrape off all the mixed paint - cover my paint with a lid
so I'm ready for the next day.
You can see 8 X 8 reference photo in this shot. This
is my first stint the next day. I've been taking breaks every
hour or two and walk the dogs around the block to get
the blood flowing in my legs. I always paint standing up
so I can move back and look at the painting.
I paint without my glasses because then I don't need to
squint. I'm lucky that way.
Nancy commented that it looked like I finished the fender
the first day and never went back. And she's so right. My goal
for this painting was to finish in 3 days with no futzing(is that a word?)
No over thinking - no questioning - just DO IT!
Thanks

"CHEVY XMAS ORNAMENT"

I got this far and it reminded me of an ornament.
Is the suspense killing you????????

"CHEVY DETAILS"

Pretty much starting over.
I wanted a red truck and I looked up the colors for this
truck and it did come in red.
Thanks.

CHEVY TRUCK

I wish I had taken pics as I went so you could see the process
I did that with the next painting for all my painter friends.

"(c)HEVY REFLECTIONS"

Here's another 36" X 36" painting that you'll get in parts
I'm framing - trying to get my paintings to dry for march show
so this is how this week will go.
A slice a day!
I hope it's enough but probably not for most.
Thanks for following and thanks for waiting.
It could be worth it.
