"MORE PROCESS IF INTERESTED"

I can't tell you how many days this was because I

stopped keeping track. All I can tell you is that it

was slow - slow for me anyway.

If you don't know I'm left handed so I typically work

right to left to not smudge my previous work. Again

this is not written in stone - it can change but for the

most part it's how it comes together.

No shadow here but I blocked it in. Had to think about

it for a day before I knew what I wanted.

"PROCESS 2"

Here's the next half hour.

Here's the next day - doesn't look like much progress

but that's it!

"PROCESS"

This painting is taking too long so I thought I'd give 

you something if you're interested. Here's my palette of

colors for this painting. I like to make sure I have every color

I need because I don't want to introduce a new color halfway

through the painting - it never works for me visually. 

I have 4 new brushes for this 30"H X 40"W painting

my palette is a piece of glass on top of gray chipboard

so I can use my scraper to clean the glass periodically.

My medium is walnut oil and nothing else this is

 my non-toxic approach to oil painting. 

I wear gloves religiously and try not to slosh paint every where.

I find this approach works best for me. I don't waste paint or time.

Although this painting is taking forever - go figure!

This is what it looks like after the first hour.

I try to work in hour blocks - take the dogs for a walk

around the block and set up another hour of work. 

This helps to get away from the image and kind of start fresh

on my return from my short 10 minute walk.

This what my messy palette looks like. I've found

that if I clean my palette every hour or so my colors 

stay cleaner and brighter. So before I begin again I 

clean this mess and start painting again.

This should've been the first photo. Here's

my setup. Photos to the right of the canvas for reference 

my matt is a camping pad - easily moved from side to

side as I work my way across the canvas.

My painting cart is on rollers as well so it's

easy to move as well. Makes for a great painting

experience. I only paint standing up - I've tried sitting down

but it doesn't work for me. I need to step back after each stroke

 and take a look - it's exhausting but it's an important part of my process. 

I don't wear my glasses to paint - thank goodness I'm near 

sighted - therefore I don't have to squint to paint.

"HONEY"

This image is from Sunset Happy Hour up at

the top of the Gondola in Steamboat Springs.

I think she's giving out free samples of Honey

flavored whiskey hence the title.

I'm working on some bigger paintings so it may be

awhile before you see any progress.

This is the last one in the California series for now. 

I'd love to paint some large ocean scenes 

I  have to find a market for that specific imagery.

Steamboat visitors want Steamboat all the time every time.

Gotta get back to the local stuff for awhile. 

That's life - I can't complain.

I'm lucky I get to paint and I have a great studio to spend my days.

I painted a small Chinatown a couple of years ago and really

felt a need to make it larger. If you get a chance stop in the

CVA to see it, it doesn't photograph well because of it's odd dimensions.

for the month of August.

We were at Arroyo Burro Beach(Santa Barbara, Ca) while vacationing.

This beach allows dogs to run free so we take our Corgi's for some

beach time it's a great time and we meet the nicest people. 

Anyway these two beach goers had a bag

full of frozen cocktails and appetizers to enjoy their sunset at the beach.

They knew how to party!

You could tell they were really good friends and that they enjoyed this ritual immensely.

Gotta love it!

I didn't see a phone once - just good company and conversation. 

That's the way to do it.

Thanks to everyone Harwigs was a fun night. 

I received so many great e-mails from friends before the show 

and so many friends showed up for the event. It made my day!

This skyline painting started a lot of conversations 

of course there was the standing joke that that's not a painting of

the Steamboat skyline - I don't think Steamboat has a skyline.

  You know what my response was????!!!!

It turned out a large number of visitors and residents were from Minneapolis. 

It made for a fun time but the painting suffered from all the distractions.

It is just a study after all and I may paint it bigger at a later date.

Really - thanks to everyone far and near I appreciate all the support.

another one for the gallery for July to replace the one that just sold.

REVIEW OF WHAT I'VE BEEN UP TO!

I've been busy - in fact I bit off more than I could chew.

I'm getting ready for the Harwigs show which opens first friday

August 7th while trying to get this new San Francisco series ready to

frame for the gallery for the month of August.

These paintings are wet so I have no photos of them as yet

but thought I better post before I lose everyone out there. 

I miss my posts and your comments - I also went to 

Minnesota for a visit in-between all the silence

and that threw me another curve ball. 

My head is spinning with images but at the same time I 

get paralyzed and don't know where to start again. 

I also got a great commission piece that the client wants for

August 8th. Well that's all there is to report just

thought I'd let you know I'm still here and painting like crazy.

"WASABI"

Wasabi had a wonderful life this is what his family has to say about him.

He was the #5 Havenese in the country and the strongest little dog you

have ever seen, all muscle. He was obsessed with his yellow lacrosse

ball that he had since he was a puppy. He was my dads best friend

and never left his side, my dad called him his "little Buddy".
